Millions of senior citizens and people with disabilities are on the losing end of the new prescription drug law passed in 2003. It was backed by the drug industry, so it does nothing to control drug prices and increases out-of-pocket expenses.
Every senior and person with disabilities deserves a REAL prescription drug benefit directly under Medicare that covers ALL necessary medicine at the best prices.
The President's costly, corrupt and confusing Part D disaster:
-
Provides billions in handouts to drug and insurance companies while ignoring the skyrocketing costs of prescription drugs.
-
Forbids Medicare from negotiating with drug companies to get better prices, leaving costs under Part D at least 50% higher than those negotiated by the Veterans Administration for veterans.
-
Creates a "donut hole" in coverage for everyone with annual costs between $2,250 and $5,100. Millions of seniors will be denied necessary drugs while they still pay monthly premiums.
-
Allows insurance companies to change which drugs they cover while seniors are locked in and can’t change plans until the next year.
-
Leaves millions of Americans worse off by requiring them to pay more for drugs than they currently do under Medicaid.
-
Provide a real prescription drug benefit directly under Medicare – not from a private insurance company.
-
Reduce the cost of prescription drugs by having Medicare negotiate lower prices, like the VA does for veterans.
-
Close the gaps in coverage to allow all seniors and people with disabilities access to the necessary drugs their doctors prescribe.
-
Prohibit insurance companies from changing what drugs they cover while seniors and people with disabilities are already locked into plans.
-
Eliminate the penalty for late sign up until the Bush Part D Disaster is fixed.
