  • New Jersey Citizen Action organizes an anti-privatization demonstration as Vice President Cheney tries to sell the plan at Burlington County College.
  • Affiliates campaign to protect Medicaid, push for a fair federal budget, and testify in favor of clean elections.

April 15, 2005

  • Anti-privatization resolutions in 25 states get help from affiliates and Americans United to Protect Social Security.  Citizen Action/Illinois, Ocean State Action and others organize events to protect Social Security.
  • Affiliates in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Missouri campaign against Medicaid cuts.
  • USAction rallies for a fair and independent judiciary.

March 31, 2005

  • USAction affiliates partnered with the state federations of labor (AFL-CIO) to orchestrate a powerful "Day of Action" to call on Charles Schwab and Wachovia Bank to stop supporting President Bush's Social Security privatization scheme, and pull out of the pro-privatization business lobby group Alliance for Worker Retirement Security. The events took place in over 70 locations across the country. USAction groups participated in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

March 25, 2005

  • Saving Medicaid and the Federal Budget—Celebrating and building on last week's success in the Senate to protect Medicaid from federal budget cuts.
  • Americans United to Protect Social Security—USAction affiliates confront President Bush as he travels the country to sell his Social Security privatization scheme.

March 18, 2005

  • USAction affiliates contributed to a very important victory for the 51 million Americans that rely on Medicaid for health insurance and long term care. Through call-ins, press events, townhall meetings, and other activities, USAction affiliates helped persuade 52 senators, including seven Republicans, to vote for the Smith-Bingaman amendment that removed all cuts to Medicaid from the Senate's Budget Resolution.
  • Twenty-three USAction state affiliates banded together to join Americans United to Protect Social Security, a national campaign to oppose President Bush's Social Security privatization plan

February 25, 2005

  • USAction affiliates organize events to defend Social Security and Medicaid, work for a federal budget that reflects the right priorities, and oppose legislation that strips consumers of vital Class Action protections.

February 18, 2005

  • USAction and our national partners are rapidly responding to the Bush Administration's push to privatize Social Security.  USAction Affiliates in North Dakota, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire organized press conference and rallies where they released a new report by the Institute for America's Future.  The report showed that young citizens in each state would lose $152,000 in Social Security benefits, under the Bush plan.  Read about the events here.
