Send progressive backup for Elizabeth Warren

Ross Wallen March 13, 2013 1

When Sen. Ted Kennedy passed away, no one ever thought Republican Scott Brown would be elected to the Senate. But he did. We can’t make that mistake again.

Now that John Kerry has left the Senate to serve as Secretary of State, a special election must be held to replace him. Progressive champion Rep. Ed Markey is running in a competitive primary against Rep. Stephen Lynch. Donate $5 now so we can run phone banks for Ed Markey to ensure we elect the true progressive choice for Massachusetts.

  • Just $6 funds a two-hour volunteer call shift
  • $35 funds a trained organizer to oversee volunteer phone bankers.
  • $100 funds a night of online-powered call technology for our online members to connect to voters in Massachusetts.
  • $1,000 allows us to make personal, one-on-one phone calls by volunteers to 1,000 voters on behalf of Ed Markey.

Both Ed Markey and Stephen Lynch might have D’s that follow their names, but they represent two very different wings of the Democratic Party. On the one hand you have Ed Markey, who has been a leader on climate change, he’s opposed to Keystone XL, and a champion for working families, he will vote against any cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. And on the other you have Stephen Lynch who in the 11th hour voted against the Affordable Care Act and has spent his entire career being a vocal opponent to abortion rights.1

But the differences go even further. When the disastrous Patriot Act was rushed through Congress in the wake of September 11th, Markey was one of the few who stood up for our civil liberties and voted against it while Lynch voted for it. And when a bill was pushed to rein in runaway Pentagon spending, Markey voted to end the rampant waste and abuse in the Pentagon, Lynch voted to maintain it. And when a bill was pushed to end the billions we give away to Big Oil in subsidies every year, Markey cosponsored the bill, Lynch did not. And when the House voted to end the war in Afghanistan, Markey voted to end the war, while Lynch voted to continue it.2

We need a Democrat we can count on in the 11th hour. Not one who has consistently disappointed us like Stephen Lynch. Donate $5 now so we can elect the true progressive for Massachusetts.

After a long and decorated career in the Senate, it would be a tragedy to not elect a true progressive to fill John Kerry’s seat — just like it was a tragedy when Scott Brown won in 2010 to replace the late Sen. Ted Kennedy’s.

We can’t make that mistake again. Help us send the right progressive to back up Elizabeth Warren in the Senate. Donate $5 now so we can run phone banks into Massachusetts to elect the true progressive choice for Massachusetts.

PS – Can’t donate? There will be an opportunity to volunteer your time instead. Stay tuned for details and be sure to spread the word!
