KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Local activists put the spotlight on some areas in Kalamazoo that need work during a tour Thursday morning.

People from Michigan Citizen Action, local pastors and some unemployed workers hit a number of spots around town. The old Allied Paper Mill in Kalamazoo was one of the places highlighted on this morning’s tour. They touted it as a place where federal funds were making a difference in the city.

They talked about the need for reinvestment in the city’s deteriorating parks like Farrell Park on the northside and Rockwell Park on the eastside. They also highlighted functionally obsolete bridges like the one over the Kalamazoo River on Mills.

They’re asking Congress to pass President Obama’s newest jobs bill, saying there’s work to be done and people who want to do it.

There’s a website up called work-that-needs-doing-dot-org where groups from around the country are posting pictures of spots like those on the tour.
